Objectives
• To present experimental data about diabetes control after gastrointestinal procedures in obese and non-obese animals
• To present diabetes and metabolic outcomes of conventional bariatric operations and novel surgical procedures in patients with BMI <35
• To discuss the relationships between body weight and Type 2 diabetes
• To discuss why the unigender, uniracial BMI may not be a reliable or appropriate indicator for the surgical treatment of diabetes
• To discuss alternative parameters for the definition of risk/benefit in diabetes surgery
